LANI IS HERE!!

Lani flew in on Friday night, I was so excited to see her. I had 6 tickets to the Sonics game but wasn't feeling good enough to go to the game. The cancer center gives out tickets to different events throughout the year. Lani and I are really impressed with the center and the care it gives.

Today I was supposed to have a blood transfusion. In order to do this the nurse has to premedicate me with Tylenol and Benadryl. He gave me the Tylenol and was just starting to push the Benadryl into my port, when another nurse came running in and told him to stop because they had no blood ready for me. This was good as the Benadryl puts me to sleep within 5 seconds. If you do not believe me then ask Aaron Johnson or Nelson Tressler as they witnessed this action.

We then went and toured around downtown Seattle for the rest of the day. Seattle is an old city and is quite beautiful.

I hear you ate at The Crab Pot. I am so jealous. That was the highlight of my vacation there. I can atest to the 5 second to sleep. Oh the things you say when you are falling to sleep into the benedryl coma. I will never tell.

Seattle is a pretty city to be stranded in. On your earlier blog you asked for ideas on things to see in the area. Depending upon how much energy one feels on any given day there is the zoo, the aquarium, the Ballard Locks, Alki Point, Pioneer Square, The Seattle Center (former 1961 fair grounds), the Public Market (great place to get local fresh food and flowers or handmade items). Near the Seattle Center is the new Paul Allen (microsoft co-founder) Music facility-- I can't remember if it is called a museum or what, but it is evidently amazing and is a hands-on experience. We haven't seen it yet, but the media says it is very a neat place to visit. The building is shaped like an electric guitar.

An afternoon drive northward has much to offer including the eclectic town of La Connor, a drive through the North Cascade Highway offers glimpses of mountains almost as pretty as Logan Pass and only briefly--but still worth the drive in our opinion. Of course, a drive to Vancouver BC and back can be done in a day--especially if you are missing Canadian candy. A great, daylong drive is to go north to the town of Mt. Vernon, then west to Fidalgo Island, then south to Whidbey Island (stop and snoop through antique shops in Coupevlle, and cute boutiques in Langley). Then catch the Mukilteo ferry back, landing just north of Seatlte for a fairly short drive home.

The bridge from Fidalgo to Whidbey crosses over what they say is the swiftest current in the ocean. It's a small, deep channel that divides the two islands. Also on Whidbey Island there are signs to "Useless Bay." We've never seen Useless Bay, but I am in love with the name-- just how disgusted must the settlers have been with it, anyway?

Going west from SEA you can take ferry rides to a lot of places. The ride itself is fun, and coming into Seattle at night on the ferry shows stunning city lights and SEA skyline (eg: returning on the Bremerton Ferry at night). These are just a few things, probably just a few drops in the bucket, but Jim and I hope they give you some ideas.

We are glad to hear you feel you are under excellent care there. We hear it is a amazing place.

Glad Lani can be with you. I sent Christmas presents to you guys in Vegas so make sure mom gets them to you.

Also, you can go for a drive to Forks or La Push to see if the legends there really are true. (Lani will know what I am talking about).

Thanks you guys for the names you did for me. I have recorded them and filed them away. I made new cards Lani so all is OK. If you want some more nmaes just let me know. I have 100's (really).
I put your name in the Salt Lake temple every week when I go. I enter it as "Casey Nish and family", so all of you are included. Take care.

I'm glad Lani made it safely there and is with you now. Earlier you had asked for ideas of must see places in Seattle. Here is a list from my sister-in-law, who is from Seattle . . .

-Pike Place market: a great place to see local art
-Take the ferry to one of the islands. It is a fun way to spend the day, or to Vancouver BC and Victoria.
-The Experience Music Project Museum is so much fun you can spend the whole day there.
-The Seattle aquarium
-Ballard Locks: you see the salmon pass between fresh water and salt water, and the boats being lowered to sea level to go into Puget Sound
-Seattle art museum

Also, there are so many amazing restaurants. Here are just a few..
Palamino (Pacific N.W.)
Wild Ginger(Pacific Rim)
McCormic and Schmicks (Pacific N.W. seafood) I know it's a chain but the original started in Seattle
Tini Bigs (American steak house)
Blue Water Bistro (Seafood)
Ivars has great chowder

Some of these places have already been suggested, so that's even more reason to go, right?
